Copyright law does not recognise plagiarism, but infringement, which punishes only the identical or quasi-textual copying of an original prior work. Infringement does not protect ideas, only original formulations. Copyright is therefore a tool to fight plagiarism, but it is incomplete. To punish paraphrase, the theft of ideas, another legal figure can be invoked, parasitism, but it is difficult to implement.
